IOS Bowen is the name used by the collective for the approach to Bowen education they teach. It has developed from many years of shared learning and teaching alongside Graham Pennington, with an emphasis on assessment, palpation, clinical observation and understanding.
-
IOS Bowen is designed as further education for practitioners who already have Bowen training.
The emphasis is on developing a deeper understanding of the principles behind the work, rather than simply learning additional sequences or procedures.
-
Yes. The current IOS Bowen seminars are designed for practitioners who have already completed Bowen training and want to develop their knowledge and clinical skills further.
-
Absolutely.
In fact, many practitioners come to IOS Bowen because they already have years of experience but want to understand the work more deeply, revisit what they know or develop greater confidence in assessment and palpation.
-
The core seminar is a two-day combination of theory, demonstration and hands-on practice.
You'll learn about the principles and history of the work, observe demonstrations, practise in small groups and receive guidance from the instructors.
-
The core seminar is delivered over two days, with approximately 14 hours of teaching spread across the two days.
-
Yes.
Hands-on learning is an important part of the seminar. Practitioners work in small groups and have the opportunity to practise, observe and receive guidance from instructors.
-
Assessment is used to help understand what is happening in the individual body and to guide the treatment.
Rather than automatically applying the same procedure to everyone with the same symptom, practitioners learn to observe, feel, reassess and respond to what the body is showing them.
-
Palpation is the ability to use touch to identify and understand what you're feeling in the tissues.
Developing this awareness is an important part of IOS Bowen training.
